APRIL 23, 2007: GERLACH VOTES TO DENY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS ANY REPRESENTATION IN CONGRESS

Once again, right-wing extremist Jim Gerlach has towed the wacko, anti-American line and voted against allowing residents of the nation's Capital any representation in Congress. Jivin' Jimmy voted against a bill which would provide Washington, DC with one representative in Congress- even though the population of DC rivals that of the entire state of Wyoming, which has a Congressman AND two senators! And this denial of basic democratic rights isn't just becaue the city is Democratic- Democrats offered to offset the seat with a new (Republican) seat in Utah! Opponents of the DC vote claim they oppose it because the Constitution used the word "states" to define Congress. But surely they did not envision denying 600,000 people representation? Especially when they clearly gave Congress the mechanism to allow DC the vote. Funny how Republicans are the only ones who seem to feel so strongl;y about this - the same Republicans who don't seem to have problems voting to violate the Constitution to give Bush supreme dictatorial powers! To deny DC voters representation over a semantic nit is absolute mendacity. Typical of Bushist toadie Jim Gerlach!
