APRIL 12, 2007: DEMOCRATS AGAIN PLACE PRIORITY ON LOSING-
COMPLAIN TO THE LANDLORD ABOUT LEAKY FAUCETS
WHILE HE IS BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE
Strange priorities. I don't get it. The Democrats and some Republicans are going ballistic over some poorly-handled political firings of US attorneys, and Attorney General Gonzales' subsequent lying about it. Where is this going? The firings, the lies to cover it up, the insults made to the fired attorneys- all of this was political, and unfair, but nobody disputes the legality of it. Gonzales can be embarassed about it, but then what? Bush is happy with him, Bush is even happy that the disloyal attorneys got fired.
Bush will probably stick with Gonzales- after all, what does Bush have to lose? He loves to make Congress look ineffective, petty, and political. This is a perfect opportunity- let Congress get all fired up about something they can do nothing about, and that the American people don't care much about, watch the Dems bloviate, and then keep Gonzales on and stick your thumb right up the Dems' noses! The Dems lose again. What a joke!
Meanwhile,while the Dems are getting wired about the firings, they don't seem to care about Gonzales' role in condoning TORTURE. They don't care that Gonzales has provided Bush with legal "cover" to VIOLATE the Constitution by seizing personal power to TORTURE and KILL in SECRET, without any oversight whatsoever. We may not care about the torture of terrorists, but there have been many innocent people tortured and killed too. That is NOT ok. Dems don't seem to care that Gonzales has advised Bush that he can IGNORE THE LAW and conduct wiretaps of Americans- including domestic calls- without any court oversight or review. The President is not above the law, even after 9/11. These are Gonzales' crimes, and that is why he ought to be fired. Gonzales' crimes against our Constitution demand it. It has nothing to do with attorney firings.
But once again the Democrats aim at meaningless targets that in the end will mean nothing and make them look like losers again, because, when it comes to protecting our Constitution, Dems are too afraid of Rove to speak out for Truth.
