OCTOBER 14, 2006:
MY LETTER ENDORSING NETTA YOUNG HUGHES
APPEARS IN THE TIMES HERALD

"Dear Editor:
I am writing this letter to express my full and enthusiastic support for Netta Young Hughes for the open 70th District State House seat being vacated by John Fichter. I was the Democratic candidate for this office in 2004, because I have long felt that we need new, energetic leadership truly representing this district- not just another lifetime party bureaucrat placeholder. This open-seat election offers a rare opportunity to elect a person with a clear record of committed action on behalf of our community. Rather than toeing a partisan line through appointed party positions, Netta has always worked hard at the grassroots level to help people struggling with issues of health care, crime, education reform, and economic independence. She has a history of successful bridge-building between the public and private sector, Republicans and Democrats, black and white, urban and rural, and rich and poor, for the benefit of all of her fellow citizens. Instead of electing more bureaucrats intent on lining their own pockets at our expense, it's time to vote for an honest, non-politician citizen who truly cares about her neighbors throughout this district, county, and state. I hope your readers- Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike- will join me in voting for Netta Young Hughes for State Representative on November 7th.
