JOHN FICHTER, PAWN OF THE BIG TELECOMMS, HMOs, AND ENERGY INDUSTRY

JUNE 9, 2005: Representative Fichter is getting a running start for his 2006 campaign by collecting from all the corporate Political Action Committees that he serves. His first campaign finance report for 2005 shows 31 contributions from business PACs- mostly the big telecommunications, health insurance, and energy PACs- and not a single contribution from a single one of his constituents. In fact, each of his 31 contributions this cycle came from outside the district- there's not even a single contribution from Montgomery County! You will recall that the vast majority of my contributions when I ran for the office came from individual district residents who supported me and my ideas on economic redevelopment, property tax reform, suburban sprawl, education, and environmental protection. I TOOK NO MONEY FROM CORPORATE PACs. He doesn't even show any contributions from public interest PACs (though some of the names may fool you- do you think Pennsylvania Power & Light's PAC "Pennsylvanians for Good Government" really cares about good government?). I have to ask again: WHO DO YOU THINK FICHTER SERVES: HIS CORPORATE PAC SPONSORS, OR HIS CONSTITUENTS? In his role on the Consumer Affairs Committee, do you believe that he is helping Consumers, or is he helping the utilities he is supposed to regulate? Do his actions reduce your rates, or do they raise them? Just look at your skyrocketing phone, cable, health insurance, and energy bills for the answer. The campaign contributions tell the story- and his votes just confirm it. Let your voice be heard: call John Fichter and tell him you want him to represent YOU, not just his corporate sponsors from Harrisburg.
