GORDON INVITES FICHTER TO PUBLICLY DEBATE (9/21/04)

Matthew Gordon, the Democratic challenger for the 70th District
State Representative seat, has formally invited 6-term Republican incumbent
John Fichter to at least one public debate, anytime, anywhere.  In a fax sent
to Mr. Fichter's local headquarters this past Saturday, Mr. Gordon offered to
work with Mr. Fichter to schedule the debate(s) at his convenience. Gordon
pointed out that the public deserves the opportunity to see the candidates
debate so that they can make an informed choice on Election Day.  A debate will
give each candidate an opportunity to identify their legislative priorities,
their approaches to address these priorities, and their experience and
accomplishments to date.

"The people need to see and hear, in detail, what each candidate has to offer
for the betterment of our community," said Gordon.  "I want every voter to
understand the choice we are facing for our representation in the General
Assembly.  The choice is between one candidate- Me - who will bring new energy
to address the critical issues facing each of us every day- access to
affordable healthcare, property tax reduction, and limiting suburban sprawl and
urban blight- and another candidate- Fichter - who has coasted through 6 terms
of office without introducing any significant legislation or initiatives to
address any of these issues."

Mr. Fichter has yet to respond to the debate challenge.  "Given his
lackadaisical efforts in Harrisburg over the past 12 years, I'm not surprised
at Mr. Fichter's unresponsiveness. Fichter knows that his record in the
legislature is undistinguished and will be difficult to defend," said Gordon.
"He probably prefers to keep the public in the dark, and rely instead on the
Republican voter registration advantage to deliver him a 7th unproductive term.
However, based on the positive response I am finding on the campaign trail
among Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, Fichter might be well advised
to take up my challenge, to try and persuade the voters he deserves yet another
chance."

The 70th District includes parts of Norristown, East Norriton, Skippack, and
Towamencin, and all of Worcester and Lower Salford.
