WEAK, VULNERABLE, INEFFECTIVE, AND UNPOPULAR JOHN FICHTER:
#3 ON "PENNSYLVANIA'S LEAST-WANTED REPRESENTATIVES" LIST
NOVEMBER 3, 2004:
-
ELECTION RESULTS ARE IN! (FINALIZED 12/10/04)
GORDON, MATTHEW: 13,025 votes (45%) (First-time Democratic Challenger)
FICHTER, JOHN W.: 15,929 votes (55%) (Six-term Republican incumbent)
NOTE: THIS WAS THE FIFTH-CLOSEST ELECTION FOR AN INCUMBENT STATE REPRESENTATIVE IN THE ENTIRE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA!
There were a total of 194 Pennsylvania Representative incumbents seeking reelection in 2004. Of these, 106 incumbents faced challengers. Of all the incumbents' races, Matthew's race was exceeded in closeness only by:
-
Mike Gerber, who defeated 1-term incumbent Melissa Murphy Weber in the 148th District (Montgomery County), 50% to 49%
-
Curt Sonney, who defeated 8-term incumbent Tom Scrimenti in the 4th (Erie County), 50.5% to 49.5%
-
Paul Snatchko, who lost to 12-term incumbent Victor John Lescovitz in the 46th (Allegheny/Beaver/Washington Counties), 53% to 47%
-
Barbara McIlvaine Smith, who lost to 14-term incumbent Elinor Z. Taylor in the 156th (Chester County), 54.5% to 45.5%
From this we might conclude that Lescovitz, Taylor, and Fichter are the 3 weakest, most vulnerable, and least popular incumbent representatives that will be serving next term. Let's hope they get the message and act more energetically in their constituents' interest!
